A soft surfboard or “foamie” makes a perfect beginners surfboard because it has everything you need to succeed when learning to surf, including lots of volume and buoyancy for stability, and a soft foam outer to help prevent bruises and bangs as you learn to control your surfboard.

At seven foot, the Osprey Tri Band is the perfect balance between a large stable surfboard and a short length highly manoeuvrable surfboard.

A longer surfboard has a greater volume and buoyancy which makes it easier to catch waves and easier to balance once you’re caught a wave, while a shorter surfboard is easier to control and turn, which will be useful as your ability to surf progresses. This makes a 7 foot foam board the perfect mid length to get the benefits of both, and is also good for lighter, smaller or younger surfers, such as children and young adults.

The lightweight core is strengthened and stiffened with wooden stringers, while retaining the surfboard’s lightweight float. Closed cell foam helps prevent water penetrating to the core if the board should get dinged.

The underside of the board is covered with a strong and durable HD plastic “slick” which gives the surfboard better glide in the waves as it’s more hydrodynamic, while the soft foamie covering has a semi smooth finish which provides some additional deck traction and requires less wax.

The Triband comes with a tasty bright design too, with raspberry triband pink stripes across a zesty lime deck, offering up something different for a beginner’s board.
